At present, the majority of Essex Short Breaks, Clubs & Activities are closed until further notice. The Providers have had to suspend services. For Further Help and details of alternative services online or on the phone see Coronavirus Help & Support in the About Us section

The following Shortbreaks services had to suspend some or all activities due to health and safety concerns:

  • Market Field School 'Smile Time' will be running a restricted service for children attending the school.
  • PARC have closed and cancelled all services until further notice.
  • Epping Forest Inclusion Project activities suspended, online activities can be found at  https://www.facebook.com/EppingForestDisabilityForum/
  • diddi dance classes have been cancelled with immediate effect. Online classes will be posted on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/diddiColchester/ and SEND classes take place in a closed Facebook group called SEN diddi dance Parents & Carers of Children&Young people Essex Shortbreaks
  • Saturday sessions with Families in Focus at the Chelmsford Athletics Centre have been suspended until further notice. The Families in Focus helpline is still active 01245 353575 or email helpline@familiesinfocusessex.org.uk
  • Butterflies Clubs have been cancelled for a minimum of 12 weeks. Support for Butterflies may be available according to their individual needs, please contact Jen: 07586 842345 / Jen@butterfliesclubs.co.uk
  • The Mercury Theatre, Colchester is closed. Online content can be found at https://www.facebook.com/MercuryTheatre/. See their website for details of an online Masterclass for adults and young people: https://www.mercurytheatre.co.uk/make-it/mercury-online/
  • Sam's Place term-time and holiday playscheme are currently closed as part of Harlow District Council closure of face to face services.
  • The Ark Centre closed on 20th March. Helpline, online support for members: call 01255 502063 or for Outreach Support: 07487 520153

  • Accuro have suspended all activities apart from virtual groups. Accuro are staying in touch with members online or via phone. They have also launched two private Facebook Groups:
  • BOSP have suspended all respite clubs until further notice. Staff will be available for carers to call in if they are struggling and need someone to talk to, or for urgent Outreach support, telephone 01268 553117.
  • Colchester Phoenix Swimming Club have cancelled swimming sessions and squad training until the Leisureworld reopens.
  • SNAP have ceased running family services within the centre. Phone and email helplines will continue to provide a listening ear for parents and carers for both registered and new families. Parent advisers are available to book phone appointments for any family who needs more in depth support 9.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday call 01277 211300 / email: familyteam@snapcharity.org there are also online sessions of popular SNAP clubs and activities.   • InterAct clubs and activities in the community have been suspended. InterActers continue to meet in virtual groups, search #interactingathome on Twitter or Facebook for advice and activities.
  • Sport for Confidence holiday sessions will not take place due to the closure of leisure centres. They launched the 'Stay Connected' programme to support vulnerable adults, now available to young people and their families, providing highly personalised telephone support from Sport For Confidence occupational therapists to help keep people active. Specialist sports coaches can also support through personalised physical activity home workout videos, to keep participants active.   • Trailnet inclusive cycling will soon recommence at Thorndon Country Park. Contact Geoff Fletcher 07939 249980 to discuss your needs and the options available for your family.
  • Shorefields School has closed, clubs are currently not taking place.
  • Glenwood school suspended after school club, summer provision may be available for some students at the school.
  • Access to Shortbreaks services at SHARE are being assessed according to strict criteria, see post on https://www.facebook.com/Sharerespitebasildonessex/ If you are registered with SHARE and meet the criteria they will be in contact with you directly. 
  • The Lambourne End Centre has closed and Shortbreaks fun days will not be taking place until further notice. 
  • Columbus school are planning limited Discovery club provision this summer, limited to students of Columbus School only. 
  • Stepping Stones Play and Learn are operating as a nursery and will review Shortbreaks provision to recommence in some form in the future. Online activities with the staff can be accessed at: https://www.facebook.com/stepping.stones.12914
  • Mistley Kids Club are currently unable to offer holiday or after school services. Registered families should contact Claire for support on 07809 176252 to assist their plans to reopen as soon as Government guidance allows.

Help and Support Updates from Essex County Council

Essex County Council has set up a new service to help vulnerable people in our community who are staying at home and in need of support during the coronavirus period.

The Essex Welfare Service is for people who are unable to access the support they need at this time. Support is available by calling 0300 303 9988 or emailing provide.essexwelfareservice@nhs.net
