By providing short breaks: At Stoke Aiming High we provide a wide variety of activities for Children and young people with disabilities or additional needs up to their 18th birthday who aren’t able to go to other community activities in their community without some support.
Our aim is to enable you to have a break and your children to have a fun activity and we offer a broad programme you can choose from. Which is very varied and provides for children and young people with many different needs.
We aim to help children live their life, their way. For disabled children, that means doing whatever it takes to make life better – from celebrating the small steps to making a long-term plan for adulthood. We provide short breaks for children and their carers – a chance for everyone to take time out and enjoy new experiences. Through our national campaigning and advocacy work, we listen to what children want, act on their behalf and make their voice louder.
What are short breaks?
Short Breaks are activities for children and young people, usually away from home, that enables them to have fun with their mates and practise new skills, while at the same time giving a breather for the family.
For the child a short break means :
Catching up with mates
Share fun times and make friends
Practising new skills
Enjoy the experience and try new things
Take part in activities which help their development
Something to rely on
Feel safe and know what to expect from their short break
Typical activities in the Stoke-on-Trent area include:
trampolining
fishing
sailing
sports
multi-sensory play
family activities and many more
