Victor's story - Challenge

Victor's story - Challenge

Victor took part in the Action for Children Govan Challenge, in partnership with Glasgow Housing Association.

He lives in a Care Unit and the staff there were concerned about whether he would engage in the project due to family concerns and him not being of Scottish descent.

Excelled on the programme

Victor excelled on the programme and carried out all requests with vigour, learning basic construction skills such as painting and decorating, ground clearance and joinery using hand and mechanical tools along the way.

As the Challenge project neared its conclusion and with the emphasis on moving Victor to a positive outcome staff approached their manager about whether Victor’s journey could be prolonged with the Challenge Project.

Victor was given another placement on the forthcoming Loretto Care Challenge Project to support his development.

Working towards his future

Staff have begun looking into whether Victor can become employed by Action for Children as a Peer Mentor, under the Community Jobs Fund. If the referral is successful, Victor will continue on his employment journey with us.

Victor has told staff that he is saving up his wages to pay for driving lessons to support his job opportunities with a driving licence.
