Pirate Ship

Pirate Ship

Let's sail on some adventures

Ahoy! In 2017 we decided we needed to change up our back playground, after some thinking we decided to build a pirate ship. So we got in contact with DNA-Play who helped us with previous bits of playground equipment. We explained the idea, showed them the space. They went to their office and did the first drawings , some tweaking of design, plans where set, now we needed the funds to create our ship.

We were lucky enough over a period of six months to be given donations from the Morrison's Foundation, House of Fraser and Sainsbury's - what great companies!!

Donations secured then we needed a few weeks where the building wasn't too busy, so it was decided to start in February 2018, the team started with clearing our existing structure and floor preparation. Then the work began, great and small team of five to start and then down to two workers - the hard work was paying off and then the snow came and some wood delivery issues which delayed us. Once the structure was built, it was time to put in the details- plants, the rope ladder, talking tubes and handrails for the wheelchair ramp.

The children had been watching progress during after school club, Saturday club peeking through the fence.

Then the week before Easter it was completed.

The first few days of Easter club we had to do turns in shifts as they were so excited to play.

If you are ever onsite, please do have a play and consider yourself lucky we don't have a plank to be walked!
